I was struck by the irony that daily routines followed by so many for so long had exposed an unfortunate casualty of keeping one’s head down in order to live a better life at some later date. This plague was sounding an alarm. Its words? Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero: seize the day, trust not the morrow.
